And the weapons would have to be modified to be more dangerous.  They could add a layering of rock salt to the ammunition that explodes on impact.

Okay this would be decidedly impractical but what if bullets could be loaded with live, angry wasps, or even mini-nests? It would a total failure of course but I'd laugh pretty hard when the "ammo" backfires.
